Distribution of Notiosorex crawfordi and Sorex arizonae along an Elevational Gradient
We sampled Notiosorex crawfordi (desert shrew; n = 161) and Sorex arizonae (Arizona shrew; n = 4) along an elevational gradient in southern Arizona (1,516-1,638 m in riparian habitat; 1,516-1,570 m in upland habitat). N. crawfordi was omnipresent except in riparian habitat above 1,583 m, and was cap...

Zusammenfassung: | We sampled Notiosorex crawfordi (desert shrew; n = 161) and Sorex arizonae (Arizona shrew; n = 4) along an elevational gradient in southern Arizona (1,516-1,638 m in riparian habitat; 1,516-1,570 m in upland habitat). N. crawfordi was omnipresent except in riparian habitat above 1,583 m, and was captured more often in riparian than upland habitat and more often in summer than spring seasons. Both trends correlate with decreased aridity. S. arizonae was captured in riparian habitat at higher elevations, suggesting it does not occur below about 1,575 m. |
