Anesthetic managements of tracheobronchial reconstruction

Nine cases of tracho or bronchial reconstruction were observed. Management of the peri or postoperative period was discussed. One-lung ventilation was needed to perform the operation, however, significant hypoxemia was found to occur in some cases. The use of mechanical ventilations such as HFJV or other methods to the non-dependent lung, however, seemed to be effective in preventing hypoxemia. Direct suctioning by using the broncho fiber scope was effective in preventing atelectasis. Careful nutritive management was also found to be important in the postoperative care of those patients who underwent tracheo reconstruction.
