Preparation of SiO2-Al2O3 and SiO2-ZrO2 Fibers from Polyaluminosiloxanes and Polyzirconosiloxanes

SiO2-Al2O3 fibers and SiO2-ZrO2 fibers were prepared by a new method via polyaluminosiloxanes (PAS) and polyzirconosiloxanes (PZS) prepared from silicic acid and metal chelates. Silicic acid was brought to reaction with 2, 4-pentanedionatoaluminum diisopropoxide and bis (2, 4-pentanedionato) (ethyl 3-oxobutanato) zirconium isopropoxode to give PAS and PZS with spinnability and stability againt condensations. Precursor fibers were obtained by dry spinning of PAS and PZS. SiO2-Al2O3 fibers and SiO2-ZrO2 fibers were formed by pyrolysis of the precursor fibers at 1000°C.
