65.1: Color Breakup Reduction by Local-Primary-Desaturation in Color-Filterless LCDs

Zusammenfassung:This paper describes a Local‐Primary‐Desaturation (LPD) method that reduces color breakup and power consumption in a 180Hz field‐sequential‐color LCD. It also investigates the expected color breakup reduction and the power savings as a function of the number of backlight segments. The experimental results indicate that with 180 segments, the color breakup is almost invisible and the average power consumption is reduced to 35% compared to a conventional field‐sequential‐color LCD without LPD.
