Zusammenfassung: | An unprecedented crisis that penetrated into all spheres of society broke out in Lebanon in 2019 and continues to this day. The devaluation of the national currency, the energy collapse, the paralysis of the banking system, the incessant interruptions in the operation of the power supply system and, as a result, the total undermining of credibility of the country's political elite. One of the fundamental reasons that made such a development possible is the current system of confessionalism in the country. In this paper, we will turn to the theoretical foundations of a specific example of consociational democracy in Lebanon and how the practical evolution of the formation of Lebanese confessionalism took place. The article will focus on the origins and manifestations of the modern crisis of statehood in Lebanon in the context of the existence of a confessional system. In conclusion, an analytical assessment of confessionalism, as well as its prospects as a system-forming principle of Lebanese political life, will be given. |
