Zusammenfassung:The genus Salvia is one of the most important genera in the Labiataefamily and includes over 900 species all over the world. Salvia species are aromaticplants, rich in essential oils which have been used in food, cosmetics, perfumes andpharmaceutical products. In this paper were collected data from several scientificstudies with the aim to characterize the chemical composition of essential oils ofvarious Salvia species (Salvia officinalis L. and its three ornamental cultivars:‘Purpurascens’, ‘Tricolor’ and ‘Icterina’, Salvia nemorosa, Salvia sclarea Salviaelegans) determined by GC-MS and at the same time highlighting the importanceof ensuring the authenticity of the essential oils.
