Zusammenfassung:In this investigation, we report on the analysis of Mg/CNTs composites subjected to micro-cantilever bending and bulk tension testing for understanding their fracture behavior. The materials were synthesized by the novel proposed sandwich technique for metal matrix composites manufacturing. Electron microscopy techniques were used to study the microstructure of the reinforced materials. The results evidenced different strengthening mechanisms, acting mainly at the interface between the carbon nanotubes and the magnesium matrix; some of these mechanisms include grain refinement, generation of dislocations, and crack deflection. Both ductile and brittle failures were observed close to the interface. Graphical abstract
