Zusammenfassung:The paper discusses African companies' ability to create competitive advantage in the global marketplace. After examining the factors that surround the business environment in Africa, the study suggests a model for creating and/or enhancing the global competitive advantage of African companies. The model makes two sets of propositions. First, significant institutional changes and appropriate government policies are necessary to support African companies. Second, African companies need to develop specific strategies aimed at acquiring competencies and at adopting sound competitive strategies. Since Africa is a diverse continent, the analysis focuses on Sub-Saharan Africa.
