Nutritional care of the older cancer patient

Older cancer patients have the same nutritional problems as younger patients and require the same nutrition intervention. A well nourished patient is able to withstand surgery and the side effects of radiation therapy. Changes in body weight can be used for a quick determination of nutritional status. A sample checklist for identification of patients at risk of developing malnutrition and suggestions for modification of feeding practices to deal with discomforts of cancer treatment are included.
