Zusammenfassung: | This paper was presented on the occasion of Robert Arnstein's retirement from Yale after 35 years of service in the Division of Mental Hygiene, including the last 29 years as Chief. It provides a review of the origins of college health and the early years of college mental health with particular emphasis on events at Yale. The development of the Division of Mental Hygiene is sketched from its initiation in 1925 to more recent times. The history of quantitative studies of college mental health from the 1920s is also presented looking at epidemiological studies of prevalence and incidence of psychiatric disorder in the college setting and of college student suicide. |
