The quantum Zeno paradox: A matter of information

The origin of the quantum Zeno paradox is critically re-evaluated. It is demonstrated, that the observation of expectation values, in particular of reduced decay constants, cannot qualify as the proof of a quantum Zeno effect. Rather, the detection of the transition times of individual quantum objec...

Zusammenfassung:The origin of the quantum Zeno paradox is critically re-evaluated. It is demonstrated, that the observation of expectation values, in particular of reduced decay constants, cannot qualify as the proof of a quantum Zeno effect. Rather, the detection of the transition times of individual quantum objects provides necessary and sufficient evidence.
