Zusammenfassung:Prehispanic ridged-field systems have been described for a number of Andean Indian groups. In central Colombia these take an unusual form and are restricted to the subtropical highland zone. It is suggested that they were constructed in response to population growth during the period ca. 800-1200 A.C. and that they may have been used for growing root crops.
