Zusammenfassung: | The threat of AIDS among intravenous drug abusers poses special problems and concerns for residential treatment programs for substance abuse, where many staff members, as well as the majority of patients, may have abused drugs intravenously. Inevitably, as cases of AIDS among IV drugs abusers increase, therapeutic communities in residential drug treatment programs will need to develop policies and procedures that address HIV infection, AIDS-related complex (ARC), and AIDS among their patients and staff. This article describes an AIDS education program at Spectrum House, a private, not-for-profit facility providing comprehensive treatment for substance abuse. |
