Zusammenfassung:In historiography, as well as in the manifold topics on German colonial history that have been widely debated in public in recent years, the criticism and even rejection of colonialism, rooted in the population of the German Empire as well as in the Weimar Republic, is often ignored. Representatives of three anti-colonial or colonial-critical political currents were active in those days, to wit, who have however only sporadically been the subject of research. These colonial-critical representatives were, for the most part, Christian missionaries, individual personalities of the upper middle classes such as the politician Mathias Erzberger and the pacifist Hans Paasche, as well as prominent representatives of the German workers’ movement, especially those of social democracy. The article provides information on the political attitudes of the representatives of these currents and their outcomes.
