Zusammenfassung:Haptoglobin types in various population groups in Western, Northern and Southern India have been determined in a sample of 1,058 people. The coastal Western and Southern populations had a lower Hp¹ frequency (0.11-0.22) while the groups in Northern India showed a higher figure of 0.28. No rare variants such as Hp 2-1 M or Hp 2-1 J were detected. Findings are discussed in light of natural selection.
