Regular, intravenous iron supplements represent a standard adjuvant therapy for the treatment of anemia of chronic kidney disease. In this paper, the authors speculate upon potential deleterious effects of intravenous iron on cellular physiology in the setting of the increased oxidant burden of hemodialysis patients.
