Zusammenfassung:The objective of the present work is to develop a voltammetric method for the determination of cefpirome in bulk and pharmaceutical formulations and it also deals with the beneficial use of surfactants in the catalysis of electrode reactions. The voltammetric behaviour of cefpirome in Britton Robinson buffer solutions over the pH range 2.0-12.0 using differential pulse voltammetry and cyclic voltammetry has been studied in surfactant media. In the entire pH range a well defined cathodic and anodic peak were observed in cyclic voltammetry. Number of electron transferred in the reduction process was calculated and the reduction mechanism has been postulated on the basis of controlled potential electrolysis and coulometry. The proposed differential pulse voltammetric method allows quantitation over the range 1.0 mgmL-1 and 62 mgmL-1 with detection limit of 1.2 mgmL-1 respectively. The analysis of cefpirome in pharmaceutical formulation exhibited the mean recoveries of 99.7% for the reduction peak.
