Zusammenfassung:The transport numbers of 1-methyl-3-ethylimidazolium (MEI/sup +/), AlCl/sub 4/ -, and Cl - ions were measured in equimolar and AlCl/sub 3/ -poor melts of AlCl/sub 3/ and 1-methyl-3-ethylimidazolium chloride (MEICI). The moving boundary method and a modified Hittorf method were used. The external transport numbers of the three ions in the equimolar melt were 0.70 + or 0.02, 0.30 + or - 0.02, and 0, respectively. As AlCl/sub 3/ mole fraction decreases, the transport number for AlCl/sub 4/ -decreases, while that for Cl/sup +/ increases and that for MEI/sup +/ remains the same. The internal transport number of the MEI/sup +/ relative to Cl as the reference is 1.00 + or - 0.02.
