Zusammenfassung:Ultraviolet electroluminescent diodes operating at room temperature have been prepared using evaporated poly(dimethylsilane) (PDMS) as an emission layer. The emission spectrum is composed of ultraviolet and visible components. The ultraviolet component peakes at 350 nm due to the σ–σ * transition in the Si main chain while the visible region is broad and may be related to defects in the PDMS film. Little degradation is observed in the emission characteristics. The external quantum efficiency is estimated to be as low as 1.6×10 -4 because of the absorption loss of the glass substrate and for other reasons.
