Zusammenfassung: | Composite films of titanium and magnesium oxide are prepared by simultaneous deposition technique on sodium chloride (001) surfaces and characterized by electron microscopy and electron diffraction technique. Small crystallites of around 1 nm in size with the structure of titanium oxide with ordered vacancies embedded epitaxially in magnesium oxide single crystal films are observed in as grown films. The structure of the composite films remains unchanged by heat treatment at 500°C for a few hours. Heat treatment of the composite films at 1000°C for a few minutes brings about the formation of Mg
2
TiO
4
with the spinel structure. |
