Zusammenfassung:The evergreen broad-leaved laurel forest developed around areas of 40 degrees north latitude in the continents of America, Asia, Africa, and Europe in Miocene. The laurel forest in Tenerife consists of the Tethyan humid tropical/subtropical forest elements as a refugia. How did it adapt to the Mediterranean moist climatic environment of the cloud belt in this Island? To compare with Japanese laurel forest, which is distributed widely in subtropical/warm-temperate region of east Asia, it should be clarified with the phytosociological view points for its synmorphological and syntaxonomical strategy. The selected location is the Izu Peninsula in Central Japan because of similar bioclimatic condition to the cloud belt in Tenerife.
