Zusammenfassung:The nonlinear interaction of two time-harmonic spherical waves to produce a radiation whose frequency is equal to the sum of the frequencies of the carriers is considered in terms of the farfield amplitude and directivity of each carrier. The theory developed closely parallels that for the difference frequency radiation in that the derivation involves an integration of the source strength density with an appropriate Green's function. The results are compared to experiments done in a fresh-water lake with a 3-in.-diam piston projector driven at frequencies of 418 and 482 kHz. The amplitude and azimuth response of the 900-kHz sum frequency radiation was measured as a function of range. [This work was sponsored by the U. S. Navy Office of Naval Research.]
