Zusammenfassung:In recent years, a number of research projects have been initiated to study the application of unconventional technologies to extend the capacity of underground power transmission systems. General Electric Corporate Research and Development has recently completed a three-year study of resistive cryogenic cable systems. This study was sponsored by the Edison Electric Institute, the Tennessee Valley Authority, and the American Public Power Association. The results of this research indicate that the application of cryogenic technology to the development of high-capacity underground transmission systems is within the scope of current technology, and should be economically competitive at single-circuit capacities over 3000 MVA.
