Zusammenfassung:The magnetic and magnetooptical properties of UMn/sub 2/Si/sub 2/, UMn/sub 2/Ge/sub 2/ and the corresponding La compounds LaMn/sub 2/Si/sub 2/ and LaMn/sub 2/Ge/sub 2/ are investigated. All four compounds are ferromagnetic with Curie temperatures above room temperature. Measurements of the magnetooptical spectra of these compounds at room temperature showed that the Kerr effect in the U compounds is almost exclusively due to the U moments.< >
