Effects of nitride additions on the magnetic properties of R-Fe-B magnets (R=rare earths)

Several nitrides, including BN, AlN, VN, TiN, NbN, CrN, HfN, TaN, ZrN, and Si/sub 3/N/sub 4/, were doped into R-(Fe, M)-B magnets (R=rare earths, M=Al/Co). Coercivities were enhanced by 6 to 20% with small additions of 0.1 to 0.2 wt.%. Remanence, maximum energy product, and temperature coefficients...

Zusammenfassung:Several nitrides, including BN, AlN, VN, TiN, NbN, CrN, HfN, TaN, ZrN, and Si/sub 3/N/sub 4/, were doped into R-(Fe, M)-B magnets (R=rare earths, M=Al/Co). Coercivities were enhanced by 6 to 20% with small additions of 0.1 to 0.2 wt.%. Remanence, maximum energy product, and temperature coefficients were all improved. BN, AlN, TiN, and Si/sub 3/N/sub 4/ were found to be the most effective in the enhancement. It was found that an increase in sintered density and a modification in intergranular phase due to the reaction between nitrides and the Nd-rich phase are the main causes for the improvements.< >
