4,4′-Bis(2,6-dichlorobenzylideneamino)biphenyl

The title molecule, C 26 H 16 Cl 4 N 2 , lies on a crystallographic inversion centre and is disordered. The dihedral angle between the two benzene rings of the central biphenyl unit is 34.4 (3)°. The unique benzene ring of the biphenyl group is essentially coplanar with the –C(H)=N– unit, whereas the 2,6-dichlorophenyl substituent is twisted with respect to it. The reason for the twisted conformation is attributed to steric crowding by the Cl atoms.
