Interpretation of Experiments on Dissociative Attachment or Ionization of Molecules

An error, due to neglecting the target thermal energy, in the usual method of deducing electron affinities from measured ion energies in dissocintive reactions is pointed out. ln particular, the discrepancy between values of oxygen electron affinity obtained by photodetachment studies and electron impact methods is explained.
