Zusammenfassung:OBJECTIVE:To report a case of cytomegalovirus infection in association with common variable immunodeficiency and antral obstruction. DESIGN:A single patient case report. PATIENT:A 43-year-old man with common variable immunodeficiency with combined humoural and cellular defects. RESULTS:Cytomegalovirus inclusion bodies were found in the inflamed mucosa of the obstructed gastric antrum. The diagnosis of cytomegalovirus infection was made from a gastric resection specimen but on re-examination, cytomegalovirus inclusion bodies were found in all pre-operative biopsy specimens. CONCLUSION:This report emphasizes the need for careful search for cytomegalovirus inclusion bodies in patients with common variable immunodeficiency and antral obstruction.
