Zusammenfassung:A technical report reviews the nutritional needs and support of patients with cystic fibrosis (CF), a complex, life-threatening genetic disorder, interfering with the normal function of the lungs and the digestive tract, and occurring in about 1/2000 live births. Specific guidelines are given for: conventional treatment; the nutritional relevance and nutrition management of CF children, adolescents, and adults; and the role of caloric supplementation in satisfying the increased energy requirements in CF patients. Tabular data and guidelines are included for recommended nutrient intakes for CF patients, pancreatic enzyme therapy, and menus for a usual vs. a calorie booster lunch. A "closed-book," continuing education test for dietitians is appended, based on the material covered in this article. Continuing education was valid for one year from enrollment in this journal's program.(wz)
