Antagonism of Renal Angiographic Effects of Cadmium by Zinc

Intrarenal artery administration of 2.0-20.0 mg zinc chloride, unlike cadmium acetate (2.0-20.0 mg), did not significantly alter the renal vasoconstrictive responses elicited by the vasoactive drugs (angiotensin, epinephrine, and norepinephrine). Pretreatment of the renal circulation with zinc ions...

Zusammenfassung:Intrarenal artery administration of 2.0-20.0 mg zinc chloride, unlike cadmium acetate (2.0-20.0 mg), did not significantly alter the renal vasoconstrictive responses elicited by the vasoactive drugs (angiotensin, epinephrine, and norepinephrine). Pretreatment of the renal circulation with zinc ions antagonized the cadmium ions; the renal vasculature responded normally to angiotension or catecholamines. The mechanism of the renal protective effect of zinc ions and its pathophysiological implication are discussed.
