Zusammenfassung: | This examines the role research support policy has in facilitating knowledge transfer. The challenge to the research system is to assist in sustaining economic and social development, while maximizing the cost effectiveness of research. National granting councils must reappraise their role in the research process and in knowledge transfer, and explore ways to develop strategic policies and programs which improve the linkages between the two. Various themes and strategies for addressing the issue of knowledge transfer in the social sciences and humanities are discussed, including: the importance of leadership and strategic direction provided by granting councils; new approaches to the design and evaluation of research support programs; the need for purposeful cooperation among the science and research support sectors; and new strategies for developing science policy at the national level. |
