Zusammenfassung: | The form of the outburst light curves produced by mass-transfer events in dwarf novae is examined. Two types of outbursts are produced. If the mass-transfer event lasts less than the viscous time-scale in the disc then the latter determines the shape of the light curve. Rapid rises and a constant decay time for the decline are produced. Longer mass-transfer events generate light curves which reflect the form of the mass input to the disc. Examples of both types of outburst are present in SS Cygni. The interaction of mass-transfer events with disc instabilities is examined. |
