HD 187399: A Binary with Case B Mass-Exchange?

Recent coudé spectroscopy of HD 187399 is reported and the orbital elements of the single-lined binary redetermined. It is suggested that the primary fills its Roche lobe and loses mass at periastron, and that the system corresponds to a case B of mass-exchange. The secondary appears to be more mass...

Zusammenfassung:Recent coudé spectroscopy of HD 187399 is reported and the orbital elements of the single-lined binary redetermined. It is suggested that the primary fills its Roche lobe and loses mass at periastron, and that the system corresponds to a case B of mass-exchange. The secondary appears to be more massive and observationally undetectable. The possibility of its being a black hole is discussed.
