Zusammenfassung: | Spectrographic observations were obtained at 6.5 Å mm–1 of the shell star HD 187399 before, during and after an outburst, in June and July 1970. Velocity and line profile measurements are presented. A model for the stellar envelope is deduced from these data and calculations of stellar and shell line profiles. The shell and line of sight lie near the equatorial plane and the shell probably consists of one or more discrete rings of matter. Most of the mass of each ring does not return to the stellar surface and the shell is thought to be replenished by fairly frequent outbursts of the type observed. |
