Zusammenfassung: | A 25.7-acre stand of loblolly-shortleaf pine (Pinus taeda and P. echinata), located in southwestern Arkansas on site index 80 land and managed under a selection system, has averaged 414 board feet Doyle in annual growth and maintained an average annual cut of 360 board feet per acre over a 33-year period. This stand illustrates the productive capacity of small forests of southern pine under good management. The trends in stand structure and volume suggest that regulation by volume control applied solely to sawtimber may not provide adequate control of the structure. A remedy is proposed in which the entire diameter distribution is regulated. |
