Field Corn, European Corn Borer Control, 1983

Foliar treatments of registered and nonregistered insecticides for first brood corn borer control were applied to irrigated corn plots in Madison County, Neb. on 5 July. Granular insecticides were applied with a specially modified Hahn Hi-boy. Liquid insecticides were applied in 16 gal of water/acre at 2 mph at 20 lb/in2 with a specially modified back pack sprayer. Each single row plot was 100 ft. Experimental design was randomized complete block with four replications. In mid-Aug., 10 plants in each plot were dissected from tassel to ground, examined and the number of corn borer cavities recorded.
