Zusammenfassung: | A new approach to hydrocarbon analysis known as the nitric oxide ionization spectrometry evaluation (NOISE) is described. The fundamental advantage of this chemical ionization GC/MS technique over conventional electron impact methods is the unique source reactions between nitric oxide and hydrocarbons. The resulting mass spectra are both simplified and selective compared to El spectra. Applications showing the utility of the NOISE method to full-range gasoline and its blending components are discussed. The method has proven valuable in identification, quantitation of hydrocarbon types by boiling region or carbon number, and determination of normal/iso paraffin splits. These results, in turn, have been useful in optimizing hydrotreater operation and catalysts, directing process streams for the most profitable conversion process, determining severity, and evaluating both crudes and cuts for product slates (lubes, steam cracking, catalytic reforming, etc.). |
