Observations of the spectrum of Jupiter from 1500 to 2000 A with the IUE

The far-UV spectrum of Jupiter recorded by these observations with the International Ultraviolet Explorer samples only the upper levels of the planet's atmosphere. There are several absorptions caused by C/sub 2/H/sub 2/ and indications that NH/sub 3/ may also be present at these altitudes. We...

Zusammenfassung:The far-UV spectrum of Jupiter recorded by these observations with the International Ultraviolet Explorer samples only the upper levels of the planet's atmosphere. There are several absorptions caused by C/sub 2/H/sub 2/ and indications that NH/sub 3/ may also be present at these altitudes. We find (C/sub 2/H/sub 2/)/(H/sub 2/)=22 x 10/sup -9/ and (NH/sub 3/)/(H/sub 2/)< or =0.5 x 10/sup -9/ for specific absorptions in this spectral region. Ph/sub 3/ may also play a role as a continuum absorber, and we can set a new upper limit of
