Isotopes of titanium in cool stars

Zusammenfassung:Isotopic abundance ratios for titanium are reported for a sample of late-type dwarfs and giants. High-resolution (0.07 A) Reticon spectra of portions of the TiO lambda (0, 0), lambda (0, 1), and delta (0, 0) bands were the source material. Particular emphasis was placed on the definition of the continuum level. Relative absorption oscillator strengths of f/sub 01/(..gamma..)/f/sub 00/(..gamma..) =0.35 +- 0.005 and f/sub 00/(delta)/f/sub 00/(..gamma..) =0.73 +- 0.10 were determined from the stellar spectra. The isotopic abundance ratios are terrestrial in all of the sample. Errors in the ratio /sup i/Ti//sup 48/Ti are typically +- 25% for the dwarfs and +- 50% for the giants. For spectral types of M4 and later, the light isotopes /sup 46/Ti and /sup 47/Ti were not measured. The observations show that the magic nucleus /sup 50/Ti is not enhanced in S and MS stars. This result, together with the isotope ratios for Mg and Cl, is consistent with predictions of s-processing and abundances of s-process nuclei provided that the /sup 22/Ne(..cap alpha.., n) /sup 25/Mg reaction is not the neutron source in S stars.
