Identification of XX Ceti and US 3215 as Extragalactic Objects

XX Ceti and US 3215 were selected on the basis of their blue and ultraviolet color excess, and have been identified as optical variables. They were previously thought to be cataclysmic variable stars, but recently acquired spectra show that they are extragalactic. XX Cet is a quasar with a redshift...

Zusammenfassung:XX Ceti and US 3215 were selected on the basis of their blue and ultraviolet color excess, and have been identified as optical variables. They were previously thought to be cataclysmic variable stars, but recently acquired spectra show that they are extragalactic. XX Cet is a quasar with a redshift of 0.736, and US 3215 is a Seyfert 1 galaxy with a redshift of 0.193. Photometric data indicating the presence of microvariability are presented and the nature of these two objects is discussed.
