Zusammenfassung:Background: The hospital's performance, effectiveness, and image can be greatly influenced by the health professionals' tendencies in exerting organizational citizenship behaviour (OCB). The tendency of employees in displaying discretionally behaviour beyond their prescribed formal job duty can be influenced by their level of job satisfaction (JS) and work engagement. Aims: This study aims to evaluate the mediating impact of work engagement between JS and OCB among health professionals who work in hospitals in Malaysia. Besides, the direct relationships between the key variables of the study are examined as well. Methods: A total of 279 participants have returned the completed and usable questionnaires. The hypotheses were tested through Partial Least Squares-Structural Equation Modelling. Result: The results showed that JS was positively related to work engagement and OCB amongst the health professionals. Meanwhile, work engagement was testified to be an important predictor of OCB. Moreover, work engagement has found to partially mediate the relationship between JS and OCB. Conclusion: Having health professionals who demonstrate OCB is crucial to the hospitals for an effective service delivery and copes with increasing demands from the patients. Hence, effective measures are required to improve JS and work engagement amongst the health professionals.
