Zusammenfassung:Communication technologies are one of the pivotal technologies which have wider ramifications across multiple domains. Intelligent networks or cognitive radio (CR) is one of the important offshoots of this technology with an objective to transfer as much information as possible to satisfy the required quality of service. This quality of service has to be maintained without causing any inconvenience to the primary user. Spectrum sensing is used to understand the environment around the CR, detecting usage statistics of primary and secondary users. Energy detection is an important approach that can be employed for spectrum sensing. In the proposed work, a normal energy detection approach has been formulated and tested for use in a cognitive environment. An AWGN channel is considered for simulation results. The results of the detection are evaluated by plotting the ROC of the detector. The results demonstrate the capability of the proposed detector in operating in a low SNR environment and deliver a better performance in the presence of noise.
