The Priority Development Area: A New Instrument of Regional Economic Policy

The article considers the features of priority development areas (PDA), which are policy instruments of the spatial development of the economy, and describes the theoretical approaches of the polarized development to which PDAs belong. Focusing on the Far Eastern Federal District, the article highlights the distinctive features that distinguish its areas from other areas with a special economic regime. Finally, the article shows how PDAs can be used to change the economic and technological structure of the Far East.
