WIDE BANDWIDTH MEASUREMENTS OF ULTRASOUND VELOCITY AND ATTENUATION IN POLYSTYRENE SUSPENSIONS

A wide bandwidth near-plane-wave acoustic spectrometer has been used for the measurement of ultrasonic velocity and attenuation as a function of frequency (2MHz-55MHz) in monodisperse polystyrene suspensions. Particle sizes ranged from 200 nm to 615 nm diameter and volume fractions from 5.6% to 12.1...

Zusammenfassung:A wide bandwidth near-plane-wave acoustic spectrometer has been used for the measurement of ultrasonic velocity and attenuation as a function of frequency (2MHz-55MHz) in monodisperse polystyrene suspensions. Particle sizes ranged from 200 nm to 615 nm diameter and volume fractions from 5.6% to 12.1%. Results have been compared with a number of theoretical models; the most significant agreement was obtained between our measured data and the theoretical formulations of Allegra and Hawley [9].
