KEYS TO SUCCESSFUL COGNITIVE AND AFFECTIVE INTERVENTION WITH CHALLENGING STUDENTS

This paper brings together a broad spectrum of ideas from the fields of psychology and reading to present an argument for effective change in dealing with at-risk students. From a review of literature and exploration of affective models, it concludes that children can succeed in classrooms where teachers focus on metacognitive awareness, teach strategic behaviors, and recognize the importance of motivation.
