Facile Construction of Medium-Sized Carbocycles, Total Synthesis of (±)-Parvifoline

A new synthetic approach to medium-sized rings has been accomplished via intramolecular cyclization of a sulfone-stabilized carbanion. This strategy was applied to the total synthesis of (±)-parvifoline.
