Zusammenfassung: | The essential oil of the needles and wood of giant sequoia (Sequoiadendron giganteum (Lindl.) Buchh.) was isolated and analyzed by GC/MS. Twenty-nine and twenty-four compounds were identified in the oil from needles and wood, respectively. Both oils were found to be rich in monoterpenes, with α-pinene (45.1% and 44.5%) as the major component. Thirteen compounds were identified for the first time in the needle oil. The most striking difference among the oil samples was the presence of 9,10-dehydro-isolongifolene and the absence of elemicin in the wood oil. The needle oil yield was 0.25% (w/w) and the wood oil yield was 0.014% (w/w). |
