Zusammenfassung: | Argues that the current discourse on fascism is the product of a general crisis that has left Pax Americana in a state of "irreversible" economic & political decline. Although the roots of the crisis go back to the mid-1970s, the terrorist attacks of 11 September 2001 & the invasion of Iraq made the crisis more acute & intensified fascist processes that have the potential to become "the basis for a distinct fascist trajectory." The focus is on economic & political aspects that propel the contradictions that intensify fascist processes. An overview of the socioeconomic crisis of US capitalism & the erosion of liberal, capitalist democracy that have been going on since the early 1970s is followed by an exploration of the dialectic of "financialization" & militarization. Four parts of the acute stage of the general crisis are described as the debt/war dynamic, energy, climate, & the resolution crisis (whether or not a "new New Deal" can prevent a strengthening of fascist processes).
