Zusammenfassung:This paper develops a general procedure to size storage facilities for open pit coal mines. More particularly, the paper presents (1) deterministic models for estimating working stock requirements, and (2) simulation models in the SLAM language which can be used to analyze safety stock requirements. The design procedure is illustrated using data similar to that experienced by a mine in Wyoming's Powder River Basin.
