The chromosomes of Amblysomus hottentotus (Smith 1829) and A. iris Thomas & Schwann 1905: a first report for the golden moles of Africa (Insectivora Chrysochloridae)

The chromosomes of two species of subterranean insectivores belonging to the African endemic family Chrysochloridae were investigated, namely Amblysomus hottentotus (A. Smith 1829) and A. iris Thomas & Schwann 1905. The diploid numbers are 2n = 32 and 2n = 34 respectively. The C- and NOR-band pa...

Zusammenfassung:The chromosomes of two species of subterranean insectivores belonging to the African endemic family Chrysochloridae were investigated, namely Amblysomus hottentotus (A. Smith 1829) and A. iris Thomas & Schwann 1905. The diploid numbers are 2n = 32 and 2n = 34 respectively. The C- and NOR-band patterns were also investigated. The relation between fossoriality and chromosome evolution was also discussed.
